Commercial use of drones
In many industries, drones are an important tool.
Many Commercial Industries Use Drones
In numerous industries, drones have become an essential tool. Real estate agents, construction and infrastructure industries, farmers, utility companies, and emergency services are some of the players who need to collect data from the air.
The technological development in drone systems, cameras, and sensors is progressing rapidly, allowing drones to be equipped with increasingly advanced optics and various types of measuring equipment. In some cases, drones replace manned aircraft. Postal services have started experimenting with delivery services using drones.
Aviation is also facing major changes related to unmanned aircraft – eVTOL.
Norwegian drone operators generally have good access to airspace where the drone is operated within line of sight and lower than 120 meters above the ground. In the open category, courses and exams are provided on the Civil Aviation Authority's drone portal, flydrone.no. Anyone flying a drone with a camera and/or weighing more than 250 grams must register with the Civil Aviation Authority.
From 2024 onwards, remote identification will also be required for several types of drones.
